Wenyan settling in to the Texas lifestyle*
We had a great time at the 2016 Barshop Symposium on Aging "Promoting Healthy Aging: Intervening by Diet, Drugs, or Exercise" at the Mayan Dude Ranch in Bandera Texas. Great posters by Wenyan and Adrian! *We don't actually ever ride horses here.

Frost lab interviewed by KENS5
http://www.kens5.com/news/health/breakthrough-drug-in-the-battle-against-alzheimers-disease/312724524 The Frost lab was interviewed by San Antonio news station KENS5 to comment on the results from Biogen's phase 1b clinical trials with the drug Aducanumab, a monoclonal antibody that targets Amyloid beta aggregates. The Frost lab was not involved in the study. Alzforum has a nice write-up about Aducanumab: http://www.alzforum.org/therapeutics/aducanumab Stay up to date on

Dr. Frost Awarded AFAR New Investigator Award in Alzheimer's Disease
The project, entitled "Investigating a Toxic Role of Nucleoplasmic Reticulum Expansion in Alzheimer's Disease and Related Tauopathies" will focus on alterations in nucleocytoplasmic transport and nuclear calcium signaling that result from nuclear envelope invagination in tauopathies. We are currently recruiting a postdoctoral fellow for this project. Please contact Dr. Frost if you are interested.

Adrian Beckmann awarded Biology of Aging Training Grant
Adrian was appointed as a graduate student to the NIA Training Program for Research Scientists in the Biology of Aging directed by Dr. Nick Musi and Dr. Peter Hornsby. Well done, Adrian. http://barshopinstitute.uthscsa.edu/main/postdoctoral/traininggrant

Dr. Frost Awarded Nathan Shock Center Pilot Award
The Frost laboratory will use the Nathan Shock Pilot Grant to investigate maintenance of terminal neuronal differentiation in tauopathies.

Dr. Frost awarded SALSI Clusters in Research Excellence Award
Dr. Frost and collaborators Dr. George Perry, Dr. Stephan Bach, and Dr. German Plascencia-Villa have been awarded a grant from the San Antonio Life Sciences Institute to study the complex microanatomy of neuronal nuclei in Alzheimer's disease brains versus healthy aged brains. Specifically, they are using recent technological innovations, including Imaging Mass Spectrometry and Focused Ion Beam Scanning Electron Microscopy to locate and quantify biomolecules involved in nucle
